Two people detained for impersonating military personnel and claiming insider investment information from China North Industries Group

A case was reported in Shunyi District, Beijing where individuals posing as active-duty military personnel claimed to have insider information on investments from the China North Industries Group and committed fraud against others, according to a statement released by a official WeChat account of Beijing police on Tuesday.
Two individuals have been criminally detained, and the case is under further investigation.
The victim, a recently retired woman surnamed Wang, was approached on a social media platform by a man claiming to be a soldier with insider investment information from China North Industries Group. After gaining her trust, the man persuaded her to invest in a fake project through offline cash handovers, promising high returns.
When Wang later attempted to withdraw her money, she was told she needed to pay a 10 percent service fee. With no funds left, she turned to her relatives for a loan, but they quickly saw through the scam and urged her to report it to the police.
After receiving the report, the Shunyi Branch of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau promptly launched an investigation and arrested two suspects, identified as Li and Zou. Both suspects confessed to the crime.
China North Industries Group also issued a statement on Friday on its official website warning about individuals impersonating company staff to carry out fraud on platforms such as Douyin, Kuaishou, and Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote.
In the statement, the company condemned the fraudulent activities, stating that they have seriously damaged the group's reputation, caused negative social impact, harmed public interests, and may constitute criminal offenses. It emphasized that these actions have no connection with the group and urged the public to stay vigilant and report such cases to the authorities.
