Inner Mongolia authorities release preliminary probe notice on controversial actress

The educational authorities in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Saturday released a preliminary investigation notice concerning an actress who has recently caused controversy on China's social media.

In response to public concerns regarding actress Na Er Na Xi, relevant departments of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region have established a joint task force to conduct a verification, according to the notice. The preliminary findings cover several aspects, including the actress's college entrance examination (gaokao) registration, the establishment of the Inner Mongolia Targeted Training Class at Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), her college admission, whether she breached the targeted training agreement.

The investigation confirms that Na Er Na Xi was born in December 1989. In February 1990, she registered her household residence (hukou) in Hohhot under her father's registration. In November 2011, her hukou was moved out of Inner Mongolia with her father.

In 2008, Na Er Na Xi registered for the gaokao in Hohhot (her registered residence location) as an "urban graduating student" of Hohhot No. 8 Middle School. However, she had no actual attendance record or student status at this school. Her actions constituted an alleged fabrication of gaokao registration materials, according to the notice.

The joint task force is conducting further investigations into the identified issues. Based on the findings, corresponding procedures will be initiated to hold relevant individuals accountable in accordance with laws and regulations.

The authorities said that they will draw wider lessons from this case, improve institutional mechanisms, and strengthen oversight, according to the notice.
