In response to a question about a Chinese journalist being injured in a Ukrainian drone attack targeting local facilities while reporting in Russia's Kursk region, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Friday expressed deep concern over the journalist's injury, and reiterated that China calls on all parties to commit to a political resolution of the Ukraine crisis and work together to de-escalate the situation.
According to Chinese media Phoenix TV, on Thursday afternoon local time, a reporting team led by journalist Lu Yuguang came under a Ukrainian drone attack while covering news in Russia's Kursk region. Lu, who was conducting an on-site interview at the time, sustained a head injury and was immediately taken to a medical aid station for treatment. He was later transferred to a hospital in the city of Kursk for further examination and care.
Lu declined hospitalization after being injured in a Ukrainian drone strike in the region, Acting Governor of the Kursk Region Alexander Khinshtein was quoted as saying in a report by Sputnik.
Earlier, a source from the security services told Sputnik that Lu was wounded during a drone attack in Kursk while working on a civilian story. Khinshtein later confirmed that the journalist had been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and a contusion in the parietal lobe, Sputnik said.
Lu underwent medical examination at the regional hospital. Fortunately, he sustained only superficial head injuries, with no other harm detected. He has decided not to be hospitalized, Khinshtein said, according to the Russian media report.
