When asked to comment on claims by the German government that Chinese military had laser targeted a German aircraft in the Red Sea, calling this action "putting German personnel at risk is completely unacceptable," and that Germany had summoned the Chinese ambassador, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday that upon learning from the relevant departments, the information claimed by the German side is totally inconsistent with the facts known to the Chinese side.
The Chinese PLA Navy is carrying out escort operations in the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia, fulfilling its responsibility as a great power and contributing to the maintenance of the safety of international shipping lanes. It has also maintained good communication with the German side and the European side. The two sides should adopt a pragmatic attitude, strengthen communication in a timely manner, and avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments, the spokesperson added.
